Children’s Privacy Notice

(Marketing, Outreach, Widening Participation and Enquiries)

Note to the reader: This notice is designed to be easily understood and is aimed at children and young people whose data may be captured by UCA. We capture data for a range of purposes including event registration and attendance, communication between UCA and schools and colleges, and data is used alongside the University’s Marketing & Widening Participation Notices to explain how we will use information as part of our widening participation event management, partnership communication and preapplication promotion of the University’s courses and campuses.

1. Introduction:

Hi! We’re the University for the Creative Arts and we are responsible for the University’s website. Thanks for visiting and reading our privacy notice!

First things first: if you are under 16 years old, you need to make sure you have your mum, dad or other guardian’s approval to use our web site or submit any data to us.

When you use our web site we may end up with some information about you.  This notice lets you know what information we receive, and what we do with it.

You have rights to ensure that if you don’t like what we are doing with your personal information, you can tell us to stop. If you want to do this, or make any other requests, you should contact us, by:

2. What information about you we might collect and when:

There are a few different types of information we might receive of yours, depending on how you use our web site or whether you give this information as part of a school event, visit, workshop or similar kind of event. We might receive:

  • Your name, email address, date of birth, nationality, home address and telephone number (if you create an account with us, enter one of our competitions, or ask to receive one of our newsletters);
  • Your log-in and password (if you create an account somewhere on our site);
  • Your social media handle (if you follow us, message us or comment on our posts on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter etc.);
  • Any other information you provide (if you post something onto our site or write to us or one of our authors) or respond to a survey we have published.
  • Technical information about your computer, tablet or phone tells us, like where you are and the device (e.g. an iPad or PC) you are using; and
  • Information about your visit to our site, like which pages you visited, any searches you made on the site and other sites that you go to from our site. Some of this information is provided by cookies (little bits of computer software) that operate on our site.   • We may also collect details of your parents education and occupation.
  • We might also collect any question you may have asked us.

3. How we use information about you:

We use the information listed above either because:

  • We have asked you and you or your guardian have agreed (consent);
  • We have thought about it and we think it is fair on you (and us) to do so (legitimate interest/public task).  

We will use your information:

  • To recognise you when you come back to our site, and provide you with content that is better suited to you;
  • To send you the newsletters and other relevant information that we said we would;
  • To enter you into our competitions and let you know if you’ve won;
  • To respond to you when you contact us, or otherwise deal with any of your requests;
  • To do our homework on who is using our site and our services;
  • To share your information with people we work with, such as social media platforms (such as Facebook and Instagram ) so that relevant adverts may be selected and sent to you, as well as improve the advertising to other users of the platform. This information about you is provided to social media platforms (such as Facebook) via cookies on our site.   • To run a safe and lawful business and share information with those who help us to do this.

4. Who we share your information with:

We have people who help us to carry out our business. These people help us to run our website and understand how it is being used, advertise to you (e.g. social media platforms such as Facebook) and provide our newsletters. 

We may also need to provide your information to people who advise us (like lawyers and accountants), or organisations who regulate what we do.

5. How we look after your information and how long we keep it for:

We take a number of steps to ensure that any of the information we hold of yours is secure and protected.

We will only hold onto your information for as long as we need it to provide the services you have requested from us. We may hold onto your information for longer if we think we will need it for legal claims that could be made against us.

6. Transfers of your information outside the UK:

We are based in the UK and generally we will only hold your information in the European Economic Area.

However, we have other companies who work in partnerships with us based elsewhere in the world, including the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Malaysia, Russia, China and India. Sometimes we may share your personal information with these partner companies and with other companies who provide services to us, for example companies that help us look after the information on our website. If we do, we make sure that your information is protected in the same way as if it were still with us in the UK and Ireland. This is done in a few different ways, for example:

If we send information to the US, Australia, China or India use the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. This means that we have a contract in place to guarantee the security of your personal information.

If we send information to New Zealand or Canada, we rely on the fact that the European Commission has decided that New Zealand and Canada are safe places for your personal information.

7. Your rights to the information we hold about you:

You have the right at any time:

  • To ask us to stop sending you newsletters and to delete any information (like your email address) that we hold for that purpose;
  • To find out what information we hold about you;
  • To ask us to stop doing anything with the information we hold about you;
  • To request a detailed summary of the information we hold about you free of charge.

You also have the right at any time to:

  • Complain about us to the person who protects your privacy rights in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (https://ico.org.uk/global/contact-us);
  • Change your mind about us holding your information;
  • Ask us to stop using any of your personal information;
  • Let us know if you think our use of your personal information is unfair; and
  • Ask us to correct, delete, limit or stop using any of your personal information.

 

8. Updated to this Privacy Notice:

 

UCA may change this Privacy Notice from time to time in order to reflect changes in the law and/or its privacy practices. When this happens and where UCA is required to do so by law, it will provide you with a new and/or updated Privacy Notice detailing how the use of your Personal Data is changing and, if necessary, obtaining your consent for the further Processing, as may be applicable.
